The second week of working abroad is done!
So just finished my second week. I’m finding my own little spot amongst everyone which is good. My co-teacher is cute. I’ll explain later.
Fourth graders finally!
I finally met my fourth graders yesterday there’s only one class of them. Thank goodness. They are pretty good for the most part, I just have this one little girl that’s rude. It’s ok though the other kids got on her before I could even give her the…look.
Meetings? Random food?
Teacher meetings seem to happen every Thursday. Ok it just started this week but I don’t have to go to since well I don’t speak Korean. Thank goodness they are not making me sit there like O.O *understands one word out of every twenty they speak* So I decided I’d just browse the internet and get caught up on some American news while waiting on my co-teacher. I have to see what’s going on in my home country.
Randomly one of my co-workers that sits at the desk in front of me, came to me with some bread and this butter thing in it. I was all :O oh kamsahaminda (thank you)! It was good and I was getting a little hungry too. Perfect timing. It seems they have little snacks at these meetings and they give me some before anyone else gets some. I’m all *nomnomnom* I love them. Though that butter thing it was super soft like whip cream but not like whip cream. I swear they get me every time. Last year it was Mr. Pizza and that butter garlic mayo looking thing that I LOVE! OMG I want some Mr. Pizza but that’s kind expensive. When I get paid I swear I’m getting me some with that garlic butter mayo looking thing. *daydreams*
Now back to classes.
Fifth graders. There’s this one boy in there that had me laughing so hard. At first I could hold back but then I couldn’t help but giggle. That’s the same class that was on top of everything but my second group…I don’t know what happened. None of them, well most of them like 95% didn’t have their paper that they should have had. I know they went to the English Village and all, but have your work for my class. Some were ready to do what they needed but the rest *sigh* I don’t know, I hope it won’t be a pattern. Couldn’t give them their test, but that’s ok, I’ll get them next week.
Sixth graders, they were pretty good I have nothing to complain about. One boy I swear he makes me laugh a lot, he’s trying and I appreciate it to the fullest.
Third graders…
I don’t know what it is but there’s always one group in each grade that’s better than the other well besides fourth grade. Anyways, the first group went through everything pretty normal. Though a video I showed for phonics had them all “Oh! Why you stop?!” We were only going to do A-C but I stopped at H since there was a nice pause and they could get used to the music. They wanted to finish the rest of the video but first they had to do everything first then I allowed them to watch the rest. I never seen kids so happy to see letters. But ok. Second group, was the same. I did story telling and they were all “Oh….”
Our lesson is on “How’s the weather?” and they were wondering about thunderstorms. I always do sound effects when it comes down to things like that in order to explain it. Seems they loved that too. For some odd reason at the end of that class instead of going to lunch they were all around me playing rock, paper, scissors. Ok I had a game going on earlier in class with like half of them for something.
Signature and handwritting
Then, suddenly they all wanted my signature. I still don’t understand that. They were all “Sign? Make it BIIIIG!” I couldn’t help but laugh when they walk away all “Oh! It’s so pretty!” I got that at home too. Even when I’d sign for something “Oh, your handwriting is fancy.” I’d be writing notes and had people say they would pay me to just watch me write. I was like O.o “ok….this is a mess, it’s not even the neatest I can write.” My handwriting has went down a lot. Like I would sit there and work on my handwriting again until I’m satisfied. Weird I know but oh well, I like writing nicely. Though I have been told I wrote too fancy and had to go into this weird print that they still thought was too nice. Like seriously?!
Sorry sidetracked. Anyways spent like 10 minutes “signing” papers. When I got to the teacher’s office I just took a deep breath and my co-teacher laughed.
Lunch? Sesame oil?
Lunch is lunch, I think sesame oil is getting to me some. I don’t know why it’s not nuts but it tastes too much like peanuts and too much of it has my body like “freak out, is this peanut oil!?” While I’m all like “No, it’s not, just tastes like it.” and it’s all “Whatever *panic and break out*” and I’m all like “great…” The kids are normal all “Hi!”
Next week-a full schedule? Reading?
Next week, I will start teaching after school classes. I’ll finally get to meet first and second graders besides in the halls. Which means I will have full schedule finally. I’m scared.
My principal and vice principal decided this week and wanted to know if I would read an English story/book once a week for the school. I just nodded. I think my co-teacher showed the pictures she took today while I was reading to the third graders. Ooooo sneaky. But it’s a great idea. These kids like books, the library is always stuffed with little ones checking out books on a daily basis. Why not?
My co-teacher also wants to learn more English. So she asked me yesterday if I would help her improve. She’s all “It’s ok if you don’t want to.” I’m like why not? I need to stop doing that probably. hahaha Oh well, it keeps me busy and I like helping people.
I wonder what I got myself into. At least I’m enjoying it.
This weekend? Seoul again?
I’m resting this weekend. At least that’s the plan. No Seoul for the first since I’ve been here. :O shocking. Maybe go to the grocery store…not sure yet. I just wish this huge creepy spider would leave my window but I think it took up residence, building a huge web and all. *shivers*
Until next time!
