This week has me thankful for everything I have right now.
I must say, this week flew by quickly. A lot has happened but it’s pretty good. Can’t help but be thankful for it all.
What happened?
I turned a year older and taught all my after school classes without having someone translate for me for the first time, and it’s just been pretty good in general. It feels like I’m finally finding my spot where ever it is for now.
At work
When I walk down the halls, the kids will say hi to me before any of the Korean teachers. Even the kindergartners and I don’t even teach them. The students are always trying to offer me something. They still stop by the teacher’s office just to say hi.
My co-teacher is watching out for me at lunch or whenever we are eating since she knows about my allergies. We’re working on her English and I’m starting to learn some Korean. Woo~ My co-workers make sure I’m ok. Though I’m wondering why they kept mentioning my name this afternoon along with ice cream. Last time they did that, someone went out and bought a ton of icecream. Matter of fact they were talking about it yesterday too. I don’t know what that’s about. It’s getting a bit cold now, last thing I want is ice cream…Maybe. Now that makes me want cake. *sigh and gets cake* I swear they are going to make me learn Korean quickly.
Next week, I have an open class with my sixth graders. I’m hoping everything will go well. It shouldn’t be too bad since it’s only 40 minutes and that tends to fly by when you are having fun with your kids.
Everything else…
Overall, I’d say everything went well this week. I can’t really complain. I have a job which is something it seems I couldn’t get back in the States after graduating. I lived to see another year of my life. I have a place to stay. I have a nice boss, great co-workers, and sweet students. People in my neighborhood are nice.
Even befriending an ahjumma because we see each other every morning, so she talks to me as we wait. Bus drivers nod and wave as they drive past, at first that caught me off guard, but now it’s just nice to see. Have a banker that’s a bit odd but looking out for me and my finances. I can always use that. The people in the grocery store actually talk to me even if we have no clue what the other is really saying. I might live a bit in the countryside but I love my city and the people in it.
Yangpyeong is pretty nice. I’m thankful to have so many good people around me.
