New School Year in Korea

It’s the beginning of the school year here in Korea. As always, it’s stressful for everyone.

Thankfully, we are all trying to get through it together. Our bosses are helping out and showing that they are thankful. Honestly, just them acknowledging it means a lot. The communication has been a lot better too.

At first, it really just felt like everything was done for money when we felt like we were kept in the dark about some serious/important issues. A Korean teacher or a student will tell us way later. Never management.

At the end of the day, it is for money because that’s what jobs are for, right? Providing a service for money. Every job is like that. That is why we work.

However, they do show us that we are more than just employees and have been trying to tell us more about what’s going on these days. I am not expecting 100% transparency but it means a lot that they are showing some kind of care and inclusion.

To prevent any unwanted surprises, I appreciate open communication. It’s already tough working in a foreign country. I really would appreciate not having secrets that everyone know about except for the foreign teachers. They might not mean it that way. They might be trying to make sure we don’t stress out for things that aren’t that bad. Which I get. However, I would just like to know and decide for myself if I should stress about it or not.

This week seems a bit better. We are finding our groove with the new students and teachers. We are adjusting as much as possible. So far, the students have been great and as teachers, we are working together as much as possible. I hope this can continue and things just get even better over the year. Really, I want to have a good year at work and outside of work. We all deserve it.
