Finally, getting my eyes checked in Korea

Today, after wearing glasses since I was maybe 8 or 9, I have finally decided to go to a place to get my eyes checked and tell them I want contacts too.

I have never ever had contacts before today. I wanted them since like middle school but my mom always said they would be too expensive. Even after making my own money in high school and such I already gave up.

Moving to Korea I wanted to at least get new glasses but wasn’t too comfortable about going to a doctor way in Seoul. Definitely wasn’t going to do it in Yangpyeong. So, after almost 3 years and a move I finally went to a doc today.

I thought about it when the year came in. I was like ok, this year I will go and get checked out. When I saw there was a Davich Optical Chain Store here that I pass by every single day, I knew I needed to go in. It’s one of the top places people go for glasses and stuff here. I even did my research and figured they would be the best. Plus, I wanted to make sure that my eyes were ok. Shockingly, and gladly they haven’t changed. Better than getting worse. They have been the same for at least 5 years.

Anyways, I walked home in front of the store instead of going to the back side of it. I decided I would go this week. Then, decided on the bus that I would do it either today or tomorrow. The closer I got to get off the bus I made up my mind that I should go today if the store didn’t look crowded. I was walking and saw that there was not one customer in there yet. So, I went closer and one of the ladies opened the door. I knew at that moment I had to go through with it hahaha.

The guy who helped me was awesome. Like A++++ service. more than 5 stars, he deserves 10. He first did the eye check-up. Not going to lie, I was shocked at how fast yet detailed it was. Things have really changed since I last got checked out. I wonder if it’s the same back home now. Got to learn how to actually put the contacts in. Took about 10 minutes to get them both in. Not too bad…maybe? haha He was patient with me. I decided to get the ones I only need to replace monthly. He didn’t pressure me whatsoever into buying anything expensive as they would back in the states. He gave me a free sample of the contacts I will use to bring home. So I’ll have a 7-month supply in total.

I pick up my boxes Wednesday. Picked out my glasses and got them made in under 10 minutes. Even got a free coffee too. Got in and out in less than an hour without an appointment and spent less than $250 on everything. I literally spent more than that in just one pair of my glasses back home before coming here. I must say, I’m glad I finally did it here.

Now, I will be able to wear masks without fogging up~! So much more freedom, but my glasses will be in my bag just in case.

Until next time~!
