My first birthday in Korea, turning 24

So yesterday was my birthday. Finally 24. I get “oh so young!” all the time. I’m used to it, but then I also get “Ah! You…25 Korean age, why no husband?!” Obviously because I am too young. hmph.

Anyways, yesterday my co-teacher picked me up and sung happy birthday in the car on the way to work. In the elevator, she asked if I had any appointments. That’s the word she used. I was like nah, just the bank and home. She was shocked asking, “REALLY?!” I just nodded, I knew she was up to something.

She invited me to her house because her and her husband wanted to have a little celebration for me. I was like sure why not? It can’t do any harm, they are some of the sweetest people I have ever met. So we did school work and my sixth graders sung happy birthday. I left early for the bank. You know the bank story. Ran across my students because they were going to the movies and I came home.

Then, it was time to go to my co-teacher’s house. I had to get a taxi. The only place I’ve gotten a taxi was in Seoul and Jeju. Shockingly, it wasn’t hard, I guess money is money. Makes sense. Made it to her apartment complex and found out another teacher was coming. While we were waiting on her I was able to look at my co-teacher’s wedding album. It’s so PRETTY! Like I was just spazzing out. I swear Koreans take some of the best wedding photos. I love it. After that the other teacher came. So it was just the four of us. I liked it like that. Small and intimate, not a ton of people. I’m not big on crowds anyways.

We ate, she bought a cake. Which is super delicious and I think I’ll cut me some now…ok got some cake. It’s chocolate with chocolate mousse. One of the lightest cakes I’ve ever had. Had chicken, pizza, and some other food. Even had fruits later. Good stuff.

We just started talking about whatever came to mind basically while watching tv. Coming to find out my co-worker was assigned to the country side. It’s not like omg there’s nothing here completely. However, she hates it because there’s no real nightlife. She was all *lays on couch* “WHY?! I WANT TO GO OUT! I’M DYING!” I was laughing so hard. But then I thought about it, there’s no clubs out here. I didn’t even think about that before last night. I don’t go to clubs so it doesn’t bother me. Then, she was saying she needs a boyfriend, it’s so lonely. She’s hilarious.

We decided to call it a night. My co-teacher took me home. I’d say that was a pretty nice birthday. ^_^
